Conditions: Blue skies, light breeze, 75 degrees air temp, 66 degree water temp
I took my good buddy, Private First Class with the United States Marine Corp, Josh Blase out to LakeBerryessa for a day of fishing.
We started the day out where I last fished during my tournament which was Capell Cove. The water was crystal clear and we could see fish everywhere. Some were on beds and some were just cruising around. I set Josh up with a drop shot with Stucan Soft Plastics new finesse worm and I tried out a Hammer Down Baits jig. The fish were a little finicky at first and it took a little work to get them to commit on our baits but after we got dialed in we could keep the fish off our hooks. I was catching lot of fish on the jig to begin with and Josh was able drop shot them out of deeper water. I also mixed in the crank bait and rip bait trying to get a reaction bite but I didn’t have any luck.
The key thing when throwing the drop shot is to give the bait action at first and then just dead stick it. You will find the bites coming when the bait is sitting and the fish will just pick it up and swim with it so make sure you watch your line.
We later left Capell Cove to go fish the marina and look for some good bed fish. The marina had alot of bedding fish and alot of good quality fish. there were also alot of active fish roaming around.
If you are thinking about fishing LakeBerryessa soon I would stop thinking and just go and fish. The lake is on fire and producing fish averaging 2 pounds and up.
