Future Pro Tour- Duel on the Delta Wrap Up
By: Matt Harvey
Saturday, September 27th was the 5th stop for the Future Pro Tour of the year. My partner Tanner Sleek and I have been waiting all year to fish the events on the Delta as we call the Delta our home water. The last Delta event wasn’t our strongest so we were hoping to come out and leave it all on the water.
We started the morning fishing Pixley slough and surrounding areas looking for top water fish and senko fish. We luckily were able to put a limit in the boat within 45 mins. That allowed us time to try and cull and focus on a big bite. We ran a few Stockton spots and were able to cull 2 fish out and leave only one small fish in the box. Unfortunately with a lot of fishing left in the day the bite turned off for us.
We had to make some decisions and we decided to run to our typical fishing spots down in south Delta. After the log run and about an hour of fishing it turned out to be a bad idea.
We made the run back to Stockton and on the way to the weigh in made one stop at a rock all that we had fished last year at the river2sea open. We had no clue if it was holding fish or if it would be good but we were able to cull two more fish and catch our 4.42 pound fish that helped us out. After the second cull we realized we had 15 minutes till weigh in and we weighed in 14.74, which landed us 8th place and a check.
That was our first top ten finish and first check from a tournament.
The next stop is the Sacramento river on October 18th!
See ya on the water!
